Greg
Managing Director
With over 30 years of experience across a diverse range of industries, Greg brings a wealth of expertise in fabrication, operations management, and business leadership.
Starting his career in agriculture, he partnered in a large broad-acre cropping and livestock business for 10 years, during which he self-taught himself the skills to fabricate and build essential farm equipment such as grain sheds, grain handling systems, and tillage machinery. This hands-on experience laid the foundation for his later success in the fabrication industry.
Greg has also gained a broad range of trade qualifications, including Woolclasser, Powderman, and Rigger, which further expanded his skillset and knowledge base. His professional journey took a significant turn when he accepted a managerial position with a large heavy vehicle manufacturer, where he rose to become Director of Operations, overseeing a team of 120 staff.
In 1996, a career shift led Greg to the Central Coast, where he worked as a full-time fabricator and installer. A few years later, he took charge of a fledgling division at Davebilt, focusing on the design, supply, and delivery of steel floor systems for residential and commercial developments, including mezzanines and elevated work areas.
In 2002, founded Byrne Fabrication, initially offering custom fabrication services for various industries, including furniture for fire stations, window frames for prisons, and balustrades for residential homes. The business quickly pivoted towards larger-scale installations and remedial site works for other fabricators, and in 2007, Byrne Fabrication acquired Davebilt Industries, including the Showground Road site.
Throughout his career, Greg has been committed to the highest standards of craftsmanship, with an unwavering focus on detail, quality, and accuracy. This dedication to excellence has been a constant thread in his work, ensuring that each project is completed to the highest possible standard.
Mick
With 44 years in the industry, I’ve gathered a wealth of experience, including nearly 12 years at Davebilt. Before joining the team, I spent 14 years running my own business, fabricating wrought iron gates, handrails, metalwork, and structural steel.
What I love most about Davebilt is the company’s unwavering commitment to getting things done right the first time—no shortcuts. I’m particularly drawn to the more challenging, complex projects and take great pride in running the detailed ones, where precision matters.
I’m a stickler for quality and always ensure everything is done correctly from the start. Organising and managing projects is something I truly enjoy—it gives me a chance to keep jobs running smoothly and effectively.

Before joining Davebilt Industries, I served in the Australian Army based in Darwin and went on to work as a scaffolder on large construction sites across Sydney’s CBD. That background gave me a strong grounding in discipline, site safety, and the practical realities of large-scale construction.
At Davebilt Industries, I play a key role in delivering structural steel projects from initial pricing through to final installation. My career in the industry began in 2018, starting as a labourer where I developed a strong understanding of site work, workshop duties and the practical demands of construction.
By the end of 2022, I had progressed to become a fully qualified fabricator and advanced rigger, gaining hands-on experience in both workshop fabrication and complex on-site installations. This foundation has been critical in shaping my approach to every project, grounded in real-world knowledge and a clear understanding of how work is executed in the field.
Today, I primarily work as an estimator and project manager, overseeing project planning, cost estimation, and coordination to ensure jobs are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. I continue to stay involved in installation work where needed, maintaining a practical connection to the trade.
My role allows me to bridge the gap between design, fabrication, and site execution, ensuring that every project is both buildable and delivered as intended.
The history of davebilt industries
Founded in the early 1960s by Dave Murray, Davebilt Industries began as a modest steel fabrication business at 110 Showground Road. Specializing in residential, small commercial, and industrial projects, the company quickly earned a reputation for quality and reliability.
In 1980, Davebilt transitioned into new hands when Dave Randall and Ross Marshall acquired the business. Under their leadership, the company undertook notable projects such as the construction of Silverwater Jail and, remarkably, the completion of the spires of St Mary’s Cathedral in 2000. These projects showcased Davebilt’s commitment to excellence and left a lasting mark on Australia’s architectural landscape—so much so that a letter of gratitude from the Pope acknowledged the team’s contribution to St Mary’s Cathedral.
By the early 1990s, Dave Randall became the sole owner of Davebilt Industries, moving the business two doors north to its current location at 116 Showground Road. This new chapter saw continued growth and a commitment to evolving with the industry’s demands.
In 2007, Byrne Fabrication acquired Davebilt Industries, ushering in a new era of craftsmanship and precision. With a renewed focus on high-end residential projects, the company began specializing in intricate and highly detailed work. While commercial projects remain part of the portfolio, these are reserved for select builders seeking the highest standards of detail and execution. Davebilt’s steelwork can now be found in the Eastern Suburbs, Northern Beaches, Central Coast, Newcastle, and Port Stephens, embodying both structural integrity and aesthetic finesse.
A cornerstone of Davebilt Industries’ longevity is its remarkable team. Many employees have chosen to make their careers here, with an average tenure of 12 years. Collectively, the team boasts over 130 years of service at Davebilt and a staggering 250+ years of industry experience. This legacy of expertise and dedication ensures that every project benefits from unparalleled skill and commitment.
Today, Davebilt Industries stands as a testament to its rich history, evolving focus, and enduring values of quality, precision, and collaboration.
